COVID-19 Action Fund for Africa (CAF-Africa) partner Pandemic Action Network drives policy and advocacy efforts by diverse partners to end the COVID-19 crisis for everyone around the world and ensure future pandemic preparedness, including advocacy for sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies globally.
To better understand progress made toward resolving the global PPE access crisis, assess supply and demand challenges specific to CHWs, and inform recommendations for world, regional, and national leaders, Pandemic Action Network has published a brief that finds that while procurement and PPE supply have increased significantly, more needs to be done to build a more reliable and sustainable emergency supply chain for the future. Some recommendation include:
- Establishing clear points of accountability at regional and country levels to ensure sufficient supplies of PPE for frontline health workers;
- Supporting lower-income countries (LICs) and lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) to scale up domestic and/or regional production of essential PPE; and
- Ensuring every country has an interagency technical working group, including UN, NGO, and private sector partners, on essential PPE to ensure routine and stockpile availability for emergencies.
